For Janus, this work is a form of living amends. Rather than turning away from his past, he chose to study it—his own and others’. Through years of listening, research, and lived experience, he has come to see a common foundation beneath much harm: intergenerational family trauma. This often shows up as boundary violations across emotional, psychological, and physical domains—frequently normalized, hidden, or misunderstood within families and communities.
Janus’s own life was shaped early by these dynamics. Like many, he did not recognize harm as harm when it first occurred; he learned its language long before he understood its cost. Yet a small moment planted a seed that would take years to grow. As a child, he heard a story about a traveling merchant who was robbed. When the thieves mocked him for crying, the merchant explained he wept not for what was taken, but because he understood the conditions that led them to act. The men stopped. They sat together, shared a meal, and wept.
That story stayed.
Today, Janus works in that space—where accountability and compassion are not opposites, where understanding does not excuse harm but helps prevent it, and where healing, when combined with service, can interrupt patterns that have persisted across generations. His mission is not to be redeemed by words, but to reduce harm in the real world—one conversation, one family, and one honest reckoning at a time.
