Steven Engler, professor of Religious Studies at Mount Royal University. Calgary, Alberta, and a guest professor, teacher and lecturer in Brazil. I help students and public audiences think about religion in relation to their own place in the world, and about critical thinking in a complex information society. For over two decades, I've done fieldwork on esoteric Brazilian spirit incorporation traditions and Afro-Brazilian religions. I teach courses on religion and culture / society, focusing on healing, afterlives, exchange relations, philosophy, conspiracy theories, science fiction, popular culture, the end of the world and other topics.
