I’m currently completing my forthcoming book, When the News Disappeared: Bill C-18 and the Cost of Canada’s Fight with Big Tech. The book examines Canada’s Online News Act, what it was intended to accomplish, what happened after Meta removed Canadian news from its platforms, and the broader consequences for Canadian publishers, readers, and the news industry.

My interest in Bill C-18 goes well beyond writing about it. My concerns about Canadian digital and media policy led me to launch House of Commons petitions e-6994 and e-7543. That experience, combined with extensive research for the book, has given me a unique perspective on the debate surrounding Bill C-18, Big Tech, media policy, and the unintended consequences of government regulation.

I’m interested in conversations that go beyond political talking points. I believe there is an important distinction between documented facts, analysis, and personal opinion, and I make that distinction clear in my work.

I enjoy discussing Bill C-18, Canadian media policy, Big Tech, free expression, government regulation, and what happens when public policy produces consequences that weren’t part of the original plan.
