He grew up on a family farm, which is where he learned that belonging is measured by what a person adds rather than by whether they fit. His work carries that idea across five arenas: self, home, community, work, and society. Work is one arena among equals. He uses the BIDEA Belonging Formula and the Inclusive Behaviors Framework to give leaders language and specific actions rather than theory.

He writes a newsletter called Someone Had to Say It, which does exactly what the title promises. He is the father of two children, one of them in college. He lives in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania with his dog, Stanley, who has never once been asked to prove he belongs.
